Thank you.
Trees have always been important to me. As a little girl of 4 or 5, my Aunt Gertrude , a life long gardener and lover of trees, would sit in her old wooden swing beneath her beloved honey locust tree and say with my cousins and me an old chant about the person we would marry , “rich man, poor man, beggar man , thief, ” while we plucked each leaflet off the stem she had pulled for us . Sitting at the top of an old Chinese elm tree is where I would escape to read Grimms Fairytales, the one book that belonged just to me. I asked my parents to save a portion of the trunk for me when told it was to be cut down thirty years later. I thought it was a perfect garden decoration for my own house. The beautiful leaves of the trees in the Smoky Mountains ablaze in autumnal colors left a lasting memory of nature’s brilliance in my sixth grade mind. I can still see those brilliant colors right now! Trees have comforted me in times of sadness when burying family members..They have offered shade in the heat when hiking or fast walking. They have brought music to my ears with the blowing wind rustling their leaves. Trees have always been important to me. I will plant another one. It will be important to me when I am old.

I’m looking forward to seeing birds going after insects in it. I’m excited to hear about Basil’s non-profit.
