Eliminates the guessing.

I get such a thrill when my seeds germinate. It reminds me my Mom who was a great gardener, all on the cheap, by necessity. I use those small jiffy squares but I separate them from each other. I place them under the dome which sits on an old bath mat which sits on a board which sits on a radiator. As each seed pokes its head up I move it under my grow lights. This works well for most seeds. Not so much for some fussier ones. This year I tried to be better about keeping labels in each plant, not starting them too early, using only 2-4 seeds (packet vs saved seeds) per square. After a few weeks under the lights I pot up, one seedling per larger size peat pot or Dixie cup (I agree with a commenter that the moisture is held better in the plastic cups but environmentally not good). My troubles begin with impatient hardening off and life in the real world but I’m working on it. I don’t do this to save on veggies since I live in farm stand land but because I love doing it. I’ve learned many good tips from your posts and the commenters. Thanks all!
