I do sometimes keep banana peels in a bucket of water to put on the plants. Wonder if that might serve the same purpose. We have a lot of mosquitoes in our new house.
I enjoy your newsletter. I’ve been gardening for over 60 years as did  my mother and grandmother. I’ve passed the desire along to one daughter and a grandson.

How ever brushing off their bites as just a nuisance is something else.  Since I am a person who is “the lemon meringue pie of the mosquito  world” and the advent of daytime mosquitoes they constitute a lot more than a  just a nuisance.  If I’m out, day or night, for more than 10 minutes I come back inside with several mosquito bites.  I have a large yard, many flower beds and do ALL of the yard work here myself.  As a result I spend LOTS of time out In the yard taking care of business.

When I am going out to work in the yard  on most days I plan on 3 or 4 hours at a stretch.  I cover myself with Off (I call that my summer perfume).  I hate the feel of it and try to take a shower as soon as possible.  But if I know that there is more outside work to do after lunch or a short rest I can go for five hours straight with all that stuff on my skin.  I don’t think that’s a good thing for anyone, but what’s a person to do?

I do take precautions and don’t leave standing water around wherever, keep the gutters cleared out (thank the good Lord my husband does that little job), keep the grass trimmed down to a manageable level. As to other solutions offered in the interview, carrying a fan around as I work is not exactly feasible nor is working only on windy days.  The option of long sleeves might work for some but wearing long sleeves in southern Indiana in June, July, August, and September while doing manual labor is just not any kind of sensible solution.

Just my two cents here.  I think the world would be a much more enjoyable place without mosquitoes and those birds would manage somehow to make it without mosquitoes as an ongoing item on their menu.
