Most of my gardening knowledge comes from this web site and what I have learned by gardening.Unpacking the importance of natives was a huge jump in my knowledge. I did and am counting up the native and non native trees/shrubs perennials. We moved to this house with 20 plus oaks, many over a 100 years old, planted densely. Someone who planted natives (rochester ny) 20 years ago. I grew up in a south asian garden, then loved gardens living in england. I find I can have some of my precious non natives, but also be 70 % native. I have been expanding the beds into the grass, year by year for a decade. Natives come back and are so much less work as i age. We do have a lot of bird/animal diversity. Now I need a fww more natives for all the caterpillars I dont have. We have a lot of color your town green groups here who plant native. we advocate for greater density to preserve parks/green space and agricultural land. Hope to find shorter guides for people who wont read 400 pages. I now look at Sticks and leaf litter as the nests for our lovely pollinators to be left alone. Many thanks. re reading all the tallamy interviews.

I talked about that a bit recently with George Coombs from Mt. Cuba Center native plant facility in this podcast/transcript, or at least how they are pondering the question about what trees to use there.

Are there bridge plants for two zones? Durable ones south of me that will work where I am now and into the future?
