I’ll add sand, leaf mold and a little more compost to get a good potting soil. Plants that love more moisture get vermiculite and more compost. Plants that prefer better drainage get more sand/perlite. I prefer these mixes to the peat-based as they hydrate easier if neglected too long. I hadn’t heard of the salt issue with the coir. I have had trouble starting some varieties in the same flat as other similar plants, but I haven’t experimented to see if it’s related to salt content. I just assumed it was a finicky variety that wasn’t worth my time anyway.
