I live in a multi-branched apartment building with small courtyards. My apartment faces south and has a small deck from which I have hung a feeder extending out from the deck. My biggest problem is squirrels robbing the feeder in spite of everything I have tried. I finally attached a string to the hanging feeder so I can pull the cord to move it about when the squirrel gets to it. It is a sight to see his resourcefulness. After sending him scurrying a few times he usually gives up until the next day. Of course, if I am gone or busy, he sneeks by me.

I will be looking into all of the links and considering joining the bird feeder watch. I need a thorough identification guide for the less common birds.

Thanks for all of the information.

I have tried to join your newsletter but for some reason I can’t get aweber to accept my email address.

There is a video on YouTube on the Cornell bird channel about shade grown coffee. It’s a fascinating little film. Shade grown coffee is quite hard to find where I live, however.

I’ve been meaning to join the Project Feeder Watch for years, but didn’t as I am away for periods of time in winter. Your comment that it doesn’t have to be every day helped me make the move to join-Thanks!!
